Background
With the start of the pandemic, hundreds and thousands of people were hospitalized regularly with Covid-19. Healthcare workers were fighting tooth and nails to provide care for the patients. To their distress, a severe lockdown was declared by the government which made it difficult for the frontline workers to provide their valuable service in these trying times. The roads were void of any transportation system and even if some were available, they demanded exorbitant fares. The situation seemed grim. The resolution to serve the front-line workers gave birth to “Crack Platoon Transportation Services”.

Objectives
■ Helping the healthcare worker who could not reach the hospitals and clinics by providing safe and hygienic transportation system was the core purpose of Crack Platoon’s service.

■ Making sure the transportation service was easily accessible to the frontline workers and there was no risk of contamination of the virus through it.

■ Designing routes in an inclusive way so that workers living in the remote areas of the city can avail the transportation service.

The Idea
With the worsening situation of public health and lack of availability of transportation system, frontline workers were unable to provide services. With this problem in mind, creating a safe and hygienic transportation network integrating all the routes and shifts of the healthcare workers was the main idea behind the transportation service.

Execution
■ 22 buses for 22 individual routes were deployed exclusively for healthcare workers. Each bus was equipped with proper protection and social distancing was followed strictly to avoid the risk of contamination.

■ The workers who wanted to avail the service had to register in the system the day before with their address, shift and contact information.

■ The addresses were collected and routes were planned according to it so that workers living even in the remote parts of the cities could be picked up.

■ Registered personnel were given the driver’s contact information for their ease.

■ After the end of each shift, they were driven back to their home.

Value Addition
■ The transportation system was active in 22 routes with 2 master routes.

■ The frontline workers were transported to and from their designated hospital & clinics with more than 90 shifts.

■ It was authorized by and provided service for 100+ hospitals.

■ 1796 frontline workers were transported with more than 19204 trip requests.

Result and Impact
■ The hospitals could barely afford to accommodate the rising number of patients daily. The healthcare workers were needed more than ever. The transport service helped more than 1796 frontline warriors to reach their workplaces and provide healthcare for the Covid-19 affected patients. It had a direct impact over Covid crisis management.

■ The buses were equipped with proper protection gears and a social distance policy was maintained strictly so that no workers had a risk of contaminating Covid-19 virus while in transport.
